In an exercise in quantum mechanics an elementary change of variables is used to map the well known Morse-potential model (possessing Laguerre-polynomial eigenfunctions) onto an equivalent Schroedinger-like differential bound-state problem where the ``effective" mass is allowed coordinate-dependent.
